My painting, Pap (2018), is a tribute to personal trainer and life motivator, Andrew ‘Pap’ Papadopolous.

I met him as a result of winning an Active Escapes competition through Skins. This allowed me the opportunity to train with him in Bali.

Following this, I joined 365, his online training program. I wanted to continue learning his approach to fitness.

While Pap is known for his muscular physique, his real strength is in his ability to inspire others with his positivity. Initially, I was drawn to the symmetry of his features, especially his eyes.

Inner strength

Pap (2018)

There was a depth and intensity in his gaze, which reminded me of Brando (2018). Yet I also wanted my painting, Pap (2018), to show his mental fortitude.

Similarly, I painted The Boxer (2015), to capture my brother’s resilience in surviving a life-threatening brain tumour.

He overcame adversity and went on to become a kick boxer and personal trainer.

Ultimately, these paintings demonstrate the connection between physical and mental strength and show the true power within.

In painting Pap (2018), I chose an uncomplicated composition, as I wanted him to be the focal point.

For my palette, I mostly used skin tone and created a neutral coloured background. In terms of attire, I painted Pap simply wearing a navy blue singlet. Finally, I took meticulous care with his hair to ensure that it was dark without being overpowering.

The result is a painting that shows the strength and appeal that he brings to others. While there are numerous photographs of him, Pap (2018) is a unique tribute that stands alone.
